King’s Extra-curricular Academies offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages from the Prep School to the Senior School.
KARATE
Sensei Dennis May (8th Dan Black Belt) is the Director of the King’s School Karate Programme. A traditional style of karate called Goju Ryu is taught with its equal emphasis on hard and soft techniques, ideally suited for young people.
FOOTBALL
The beautiful game of football is brought to you by Cobi Allen and coaches from Elite Sports. The emphasis is on fun, ball mastery and learning about the various aspects of the game. A key component in this class is to not only become a better footballer but to also encourage good character and sportsmanship.
TENNIS
Run by Geoff Beech Tennis, this programme is suited to all different levels of tennis.
BASKETBALL
The King’s basketball programme is a great way to improve your basketball skills and knowledge. Classes are run by experienced, dedicated and passionate coaches.
HOCKEY
This popular programme offers hockey skills coaching provided by Somerville Hockey Club.
BADMINTON
Run in conjunction with the New Zealand Badminton Academy we offer skills training for all levels from social, intermediate to advanced.
CHESS
Chess is a very popular option at King's School and a fantastic game to get the mind working. Mr Ewen Green leads our Chess tutors and provides beginner, intermediate and advanced coaching sessions.
FLIPPA BALL, MINI POLO & WATER POLO
Flippa Ball (Year 3 & Year 4) is a great entry level sport which leads into Water Polo. The boys get to learn the sport and compete regularly in
an outside league competition.
Mini Polo (Year 5 & Year 6) is also an opportunity for boys to learn the basics of beginner Water Polo skills and the rules of the sport. Teams compete regularly in an outside league competition.
Water Polo (Year 7 & 8) involves league games on Friday nights.
ARCHERY
Archery is a great sport that is both competitive and social. Our instructors have only 4 out of 8 students shooting at one time so that they can have their full focus on a small number of students.
