DADS
and their lads
O
n Friday 20th September, the Year 2 boys got to spend the day at school
with their Dads on a special Fathers’ and Sons’ Teambuilding Day. Although
the weather was not perfect on the day, this did not stop everyone having
a great time competing in teams in various competitions and activities set up in
the Sportsdome.
Prior to the event and unbeknown to the Dads, the boys had spent several weeks raising
money to buy bicycle parts which they would construct together with the help of their
Dads and donate to Kidz First, the Starship Hospital Physio Dept and Cystic Fibrosis
Auckland families.
The boys and their Dads got to work and assembled these bikes in teams and were then
checked by Avanti bike mechanics to ensure they were ready to use. Only one team managed
to complete a faultless bike, with one team unfortunately putting the handle bars on back to
front! But in the end, all was well and great team skills were learnt as the recipients and their
families were presented with their bikes.
Cystic Fibrosis Auckland Branch co-ordinator, Wendy Edmondson and fieldworker, Melinda
Coombes were on hand with the families to receive the bicycles and said,
“We think this is an
amazing thing for King’s students to take part in and are extremely grateful that our families will
be receiving 9 bicycles. It is important for people with Cystic Fibrosis to exercise regularly as
this can help clear mucus and increase lung capacity – so bikes are a great present for
children with Cystic Fibrosis.”
