Countdown
to Centenary!
O
n Friday August 30th our first
ever social occasion was held in
the Sportsdome, following the
generous donation of a ‘roll-down carpet’
by the Friends’ Committee. It turned out
to be an amazing venue and you could be
forgiven for forgetting completely that
you were enjoying an evening where only
a few hours earlier boys had been chasing
basketballs around!
This event was a special occasion, to
mark the official countdown to our
Centenary in 2022. To mark this, a
countdown clock was started by one of
our Early Learning Centre boys, Shyam
Patel who will be in Year 8 for the actual
centennial celebrations themselves!
Headmaster gave an insightful address on
his “blueprint” for King’s School for the next
decade leading up to the Centenary. Guests
also heard from Foundation President,
James Reeves on the pride of what has
gone before us, the generosity of previous
generations and the exciting future for the
school with its current community playing
such a crucial role.
MC for the night John Hawkesby (and
grandfather to Dylan, Fletcher and Miller)
had the audience in stitches with his
light-hearted banter with the Headmaster
about all things King’s! Then DJ to the stars,
Stephen Buckley started up the dance music
and soon the dancefloor was packed with
enthusiastic guests enjoying the spirit of
the evening.
