E
ach year at King’s the Year 8’s spend
the last cycle in Art and CDT creating a
one-minute animation movie. This year
we have been able to choose between using
iPads, “stop-go” or a computer programme to
create them.
We look at copious animation examples and then,
working in pairs, brainstorm and storyboard our
ideas so we know what our animation is going to
be about.
To make a one-minute animation, 1500
photographs or frames need to be taken. That’s a
lot! Every movement has to be captured and the
camera has to be completely still as thousands and
thousands of photos are taken.
The boys then import it into iMovie and the
editing process begins. This involves adding sound,
lighting, titles and credits. Final touches that all
make such a difference. Some boys are composing
and playing their own music for sound.
The end results are amazing and the boys come
up with cool, funny and often unbelievable one-
minute stories!
